I'm 52 (age is just a number) and was running over 25 miles per week and slowly developed a cascade of what I call "up hill" running tendonditises.
Achilles tendonitis, now plantar faciitis. What can I do? I can hardly walk and I haven't run now for almost 7 weeks. I'm no crutches and icing 4-5 times a day, advil too. When can I run again? I was hiking up in the Sierras up until a few weeks ago. My last big run was Bay to Breakers and I did my best time ever! I did physical therapy but that seemed to make it worse. Too much stretching. I'm seeing a orthopedic in two weeks. It's the earliest I could get in, I'll try again on Monday to get in to see ANY foot doctor earlier.

Really miss running..

Ok. So I see that 8 people visited my thread, but no one answered! I went to the Podiatrist this morning and this is what he said. I have "cuboidal syndrome" which involves not only the plantar faciitis, but also the tendons below the feet. It started when I sprained my ankle (major swelling) in April and I didn't wait long enough for it to heel properly (I ran on it within days! ) It cascaded into multiple injuries (Achilles tendonitis etc) because I wasn't "planting" my foot properly because those little bones in the foot still were swollen and defoming the foot slightly. He gave me orthotics, a very special way to tape my arch up, gave me a hormone shot right into the bottom of the foot where I had the most inflammation, and said I'll be able to run in a few weeks possibly. YEA! So, I've learned to go to the podiatrist RIGHT away, not the physical therapist and really wait till all the swelling goes down on a sprained anke to train hard again. Maybe light workouts 4 weeks after and then regular workouts 8 weeks after?
Happy running and keep injury free!

I have also had a bout of plantar fasciitis for over a year now, initially not able to run at all, now having built up to 25 mpw. My treatment included months of physical therapy, which helped to strenghten the foot. Icing and celebrex seem to do the trick now.

btw, one of the two links on the Aggies website is http://www.amolsaxena.com/ (the other is Asics). There is quite a bit of information on plantar fasciitis, etc. Dr. Saxena's website.

My plantar fasciitis in the above thread was not really plantar fasciitis. After going to six doctors because nothing seemed to help, one doctor said "lets get an xray of your lumbar vertebrae" and tadaaaa that is what it was.Turns out it was a "degenerated disc", As soon as I got the phone call with the results of the xray, I sat down on the floor and did 200 sit ups. Immediately, the pain lifted from my feet. I mean with in minutes! In a few days I was 95% better. I was to the point of not being able to walk. I had a wheel chair, crutches.... Now I have very little pain in my feet by moderate pain in my back. Before I had no pain in my back and intense pain in my feet. It's been two weeks of physical therapy for lumbar stabilization excerises and I have started running again after four months of not running. I am SO out of shape! Hope I can get back to where I was soon.
